"One Board or £1"

 

Our Members

 

 

There was a wonderfully varied collection of stamps, miniature sheets, covers, postmarks, postcards and posters to view at the Lanarkshire Philatelic Society meeting on Friday evening. This was the last meeting of the current session and members were asked to present a "One board display - or pay £1". 

 

Members responded magnificently - only £3 was paid!

 

The titles of the displays were:-

 

Brian Dow – Dunfermline Post Offices and corresponding postmarks 

Maureen Mathieson – Life of Charles Darwin

Elsie Miller – Jersey Women of Achievement

Alan Rushworth – East Kilbride – historic views of the Village.

Terry Woods – Lanarkshire – historic letters which had been mis-sent – and readdressed

Derek Wiltshire – The Laying of the Atlantic Telegraph Cable between the UK and USA

Ed Archer – Canada – the different peoples and cultures of the country

Graham U’ren – Cricket and Scottish Literary Figures – including Barrie, Kipling, Conan Doyle etc

Frederick Spoun – 210th Birthday of Karl Ritter von Ghega – the Designer of the Semmering Railway

Murray Touche – Family Cephelopeda – Molluscs (including Octopus, Squid, Nautilus)

David Haig – Philatelic issues of Iron Maiden, War Hammer etc

Robert Watt – History of the Cameroon and Nigeria Border and relationships

Caroline Watt – Old ‘Hamilton’ Postcards – sent to celebrate birthdays

Walter Simpson – Mailing problems – Wrong Spelling, Mis-sent, Fake overprints

Andy Napier – Fiji – Caring for Nature. Definitive Overprints

Bobby Forrest – The Crimean War- including Florence Nightingale

Alex Magowan – "Hamilton" – in  New Zealand, Australia, Bermuda

Anne Holmes – the Tour de France

David Brown – Cigarette cards illustrating Rare stamps, Cars, Shipping

David Haig – East German stamp booklets, South Africa - same views on postcards and stamps

 

Vice President, and organiser, Robert Watt gave warm thanks to all who presented such varied, interesting and entertaining displays.
