It was an unusual event at the Lanarkshire Philatelic Society on Friday afternoon (18th) – not a stamp in sight! This was an afternoon of "Postcards" and a wonderfully interesting event it was!
We were taken to other parts of the world:
Brian Dow displayed the Cruise Ships of Hurtigruten which sail the Norwegian coast and into the Arctic.
Andy Napier fascinated with cards of Fiji – 2 cards each of the same view but some 20/30 years apart.
Maureen Mathieson was in Italy admiring the violently erupting volcanoes of Mount Etna and Vesuvius.
Robert Watt gave a tour of the island of Zanzibar (now part of Tanzania) with many homely views.
Murray Touche had cards of ‘Nature of America’ – showing illustrations of Fish, Animals, Birds etc
The UK was not forgotten:
Derek Wiltshire, showed lovely views of Cardiff, also cartoons of the station on Anglesey – Llanfair PG
Graham U’ren praised the beautiful photography of Archibald Brown & Co - of the Falls of Clyde
Terry Woods reminded all of some disappeared Lanarkshire Post Offices – views of POs from A- C
David Brown was visiting Lochan Eilein, Rothiemurchus – and then across to Islay – lovely views
Ken Liddell asked ‘What is a Postcard?’ and showed some of the first issued. Also some Gaelic Postcards
