Lanarkshire Philatelic Society

"The Committee "Entertain""

Our Committee Members

"The Committee Entertain" was the theme of Friday’s meeting of the Lanarkshire Philatelic Society – and the members duly performed with an interesting variety of subjects.

Bobby Forrest set the tone with his colourful and memorable display of "Cinderellas" depicting Pop Music Artists, Actors, Film Stars, and Famous People

Maureen Mathieson displayed beautiful postcards with printed stamps of Switzerland for the years 2021 and 22 – and also a card with a stamp commemorating the inventor of Velcro – and also including a piece of Velcro!

Ken Liddell took members round many Scottish Islands by presenting postcards and postmarks of each; Rum, Canna, Lismore, Eigg, Jura, Iona and others – many collected by the late Ken Norris.

David Haig showed some interesting history with his Stamps, Postmarks and historical Postcards of Saar – now part of Germany – having been given to France after World War 1

Brian Dow travelled south to British Antarctic Territory and displayed stamps, miniature sheets and postmarks issued during the years 2022 and 2023. He, also, included a display of historic postcards of Perthshire, Kincardineshire and Clydesdale.

Terry Woods presented some Lanarkshire postal history by showing historic postcards, and associated early postmarks, of villages beginning with the letters  B.C.D.F.K.L

Bobby Forrest, again, gave a fascinating display of Commonwealth and Worldwide Covers.

Elsie Miller showed stamps, miniature sheets, postmarks illustrating Jules Verne’s novel "Around the World in Eighty Days".

Andy Napier was in the South Pacific – in Fiji – with his display of stamps commemorating the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary. On show were many of the printed stamps which had            flaws in them & colour discrepancies; along with many, and various, related covers.

Andy Napier, gave thanks to all the committee members who had presented a display – and who had given the members a most illuminating and interesting meeting.

Our next meeting in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton, is on Friday, 19th January 2024, at 1:30pm when Mr. Robert Watt will display "Gold Coast; Pre-Independence".

Anyone with an interest in stamps, postal history, postcards etc is very welcome to attend.
