Kenneth Eric Norris FRPSL

11 March 1937 to 22 April 2023

An Appreciation by Miss Margaret Lyth

I first met Ken Norris on 1st September, 1967 when he welcomed me to the second meeting of the Lanarkshire Philatelic Society having

been made aware of its founding by the local press.

Ken was noted by his excellent attendance at the society & seldom, in his lifetime, did he miss a meeting.

Ken was interested in ships & had an excellent collection of ships on stamps &, of course, covers relating to ships.

He spent his holidays cruising & returned from these holidays with even more material for his ships collection.

Ken was, of course, a founder member of our society & was well known in philatelic circles. He acted as secretary of the society for many

years; also serving as President & Honorary President.

If anything needed done Ken was the man who was willing to do it.

Ken had the distinction of being the President of the Association of Scottish Philatelic Societies (ASPS).

He was awarded the ABPS Congress Medal for 2006 in recognition of his many years of promoting philately in Scotland.

The medal was presented to Ken at the ABPS Congress, held in Renfrew, during July 2006.

Ken, a member of many societies, was also National Exhibition secretary for ASPS from 1983 to 1989 and was also involved, for many

years, with the Dundee Philatelic Weekend. He also played a key part in the organisation of the ABPS Exhibition at the SECC, Glasgow,

2000.

It was an honour, and a pleasure, to have enjoyed his friendship and I, as will many others, miss him very much.
