Lanarkshire Philatelic Society

Mrs. Ellen Currie

"A Scottish Alphabet"

On a rather dismal Friday evening – 5th November - the display entitled an "A to Z of Scotland" shown to the Lanarkshire Philatelic Society did much to uplift spirits!

Mrs Ellen Currie presented a wonderful view of postmarks, stamps and postcards illustrating Scotland – in alphabetical order. There were many colourful postcards which, amongst many others, included cities, islands, churches, historical sites and artefacts, cathedrals, towns – and some ‘fun’ cards!

The alphabetical list presented, amongst many others, Auchtermuchty, Banavie, Coatbridge, Dunblane, Eriskay, Freuchie, Glasgow, Hamilton, Islay, John o’Groats, Kirkfieldbank, Leadhills, Millport, Oban, Perth, Rum, Shotts, Tiree, Ulva, Voe, Wishaw and Yetholm.

The views were much appreciated by members as they relived childhood memories, remembered holidays, viewed special events, and appreciated the beauty and historical interest of their home country of Scotland.

The President, Dr Brian Dow,  gave warm thanks to Ellen Currie for presenting such a memorable and interesting display.

Our next meeting in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton, is on Friday, 19th November, 2021, at 7:30pm when LPS member Graham U’ren will present his display, "Flightless Birds – Jings, nae wings!"

Anyone with an interest in stamps, postal history, postcards etc is very welcome to attend.
