"Celebrations"

The theme of Friday’s meeting of the Lanarkshire Philatelic Society (20th December) was "Celebrations" – and there was a wonderfully varied response.

As Christmas was near there was a display -  of stamps and covers issued by various BB companies; of Australian Army Christmas Cards of WW2; Embroidered New Year Cards of WW1; Christmas stamp issues of Gibraltar 1967-1995; Christmas Stamp Booklets of West Germany; stamps illustrating Dickens’ "A Christmas Carol" and Winter – looking at Christmas and forward to the future.

Also Stamp issues of Celebrations -  presented through the year in the USA; of the animals of the Chinese New Year; also further miscellaneous Celebrations – stamps, covers, meter marks of Rugby Union Wins; postcards and meter marks of William Wallace’s victories - leading to his cruel execution; of the aftermath of the victory of WW1; of the Russian Revolution; and postcards of personalities of the Third Reich.

Celebrations of the beauty of Nature also –Covers of the Nature wonders of the USA; Postcards of the beauty of New Zealand; postcards of the wonderful construction of Bridges and of bygone ships of the Clyde.

Not forgetting Wee Maggie’s longing to celebrate a lovely Christmas meal.
