"Members' Night"

 

8 sheets or 50p

 

There was a very small pile of 50p coins on the table at The Lanarkshire Philatelic Society on Friday(24th) as most members had opted to give an 8 sheet display rather than be fined 50p!

The displays also showed how wonderfully diverse members’ interests are. The displays were of stamps, covers, overprints, postcards, postmarks and cachets: -

Paul McGowan displayed Netherlands KLM;

Bob Bradford – the Indian Expeditionary Force in Cilicia, Turkey during WW1;

Alan Rushworth – "The Road to the Isles" – the Railway journey from Fort William to Mallaig;

David Brown – Motor Cars from various countries;

Duncan McIntyre – USA pre-cancel & overprinted with name of city;

Elsie Miller – Arctic Convoys of WW2;

Ken Norris – Stamp booklets issued to commemorate Congress or Centenaries of Philatelic Societies;

Eric Ross – large blocks of stamps used on parcels;

Sheila Sinclair – Postcards depicting the life of Mennonite and Amish people;

Robin Wishart – British Locomotive Steam Engines exhibited abroad;p

Chris Moffat – GB Commemoratives of 2004;

Jim Grassom – Forth Rail Bridge, Postal History of AB Auckland & Canada Internal First Flights;

Ed Archer – Commonwealth countries 1937-1961;

Murray Touche – Duck Stamps of Robert Steiner;

Gary Cheyne – Aspects of WW1 –also commemoration of Glasgow VC winner, Capt Harry Ranken;

Derek Wiltshire – Views of old Zanzibar;

Albert Tong – Locomotives of various countries;

Mike Cleary – Pirates and Privateers;

Margaret Lyth – Correspondence from MPs re Care of the Elderly;

Raymond Baldock – Stamps of Lithuania – 1920-1939;

Jessie Henderson – The Forbidden City of Beijing, China;

Clayton Scott – Visit to East Germany – Dresden and Potsdam;

Walter Tytherleigh – German Generals of WW1

&

Jim Fulton – Hungarian Propaganda after the Treaty of Trianon.

Anne Holmes, President, led members in a warm Vote of Thanks given to all who had displayed with such a wonderful variety of themes.

This meeting concludes the session of 2014-2015. We shall resume on Friday, 4th September, 2015 in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton at 7:30pm.

We will welcome anyone who has an interest in stamps, postal history or postcards.
