"Members' Night"
"Festive Follies"
The
theme for this
meeting was
"Festive
Follies".
This brought out a number of displays
pertaining to the theme – and also rather a number that did not!
The evening was ‘kicked off’ by:-
Sheila
Sinclair with RNLI
postcards showing rescues in wild weather
along with
Christmas seals from Boys Town, USA;
Margaret
Lyth told another story of the exploits of Wee Maggie;
Gordon
Shepherd "climbed"
Ben Nevis. - Postcards of the Observatory and Hotel at top. Car
taken to the top;
Paul
McGowan displayed Rutherglen through the years – on postcards;
Murray
Touche brought postcards showing characters from Disney Films;
Bill
Wilkie showed postcards of various Universities of Britain;
Albert
Tong was admiring postcards of "Artistic
Follies"
&
Ellen
Currie was listening to a "Talkin’
Robin"
– Cards and stamps showing many Robins!
The
second round
began with:-
Derek
Wiltshire displaying Christmas cards and Covers;
Jim Fulton was also admiring works of Art – as shown on postcards;
David
Brown showed some lovely postcards originally published as birthday cards;
Raymond
Baldock was at war with his display of Ships of World War 1;
Elsie
Miller showed stamps of Festivals celebrated by 4 different religions;
Ken
Norris was posting his Christmas Mail with the aid of the Scouts of Falkirk who
had their own Postmarks;
Ken
Liddell gave a display of "Follies"
– stone buildings without a true purpose!;
Frank
Jardine had a lovely show of Christmas labels and seals
&
Eric
Ross reminded everyone to "Post
Early for Christmas"
Dr Ken Liddell, President, gave thanks to all who had displayed and to Raymond Baldock who sponsored the evening.
Our next meeting in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton, is on Friday, 8th January, 2016, at 7:30pm when the Committee will endeavour to "Entertain".
Anyone with an interest in stamps, postal history, postcards etc is very
welcome to attend.
