"Members' Night"

"Festive Follies"

The theme for this meeting was "Festive Follies". This brought out a number of displays pertaining to the theme – and also rather a number that did not!

The evening was ‘kicked off’ by:-

Sheila Sinclair with RNLI  postcards showing rescues in wild weather along with Christmas seals from Boys Town, USA;

Margaret Lyth told another story of the exploits of Wee Maggie;

Gordon Shepherd "climbed" Ben Nevis. - Postcards of the Observatory and Hotel at top.  Car taken to the top;

Paul McGowan displayed Rutherglen through the years – on postcards;

Murray Touche brought postcards showing characters from Disney Films;

Bill Wilkie showed postcards of various Universities of Britain;

Albert Tong was admiring postcards of "Artistic Follies" &

Ellen Currie was listening to a "Talkin’ Robin" – Cards and stamps showing many Robins!

The second round began with:-

Derek Wiltshire displaying Christmas cards and Covers;

Jim Fulton was also admiring works of Art – as shown on postcards;

David Brown showed some lovely postcards originally published as birthday cards;

Raymond Baldock was at war with his display of Ships of World War 1;

Elsie Miller showed stamps of Festivals celebrated by 4 different religions;

Ken Norris was posting his Christmas Mail with the aid of the Scouts of Falkirk who had their own Postmarks;

Ken Liddell gave a display of "Follies" – stone buildings without a true purpose!;

Frank Jardine had a lovely show of Christmas labels and seals &

Eric Ross reminded everyone to "Post Early for Christmas" .

Dr Ken Liddell, President, gave thanks to all who had displayed and to Raymond Baldock who sponsored the evening.

Our next meeting in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton, is on Friday, 8th January, 2016, at 7:30pm when the Committee will endeavour to "Entertain".

Anyone with an interest in stamps, postal history, postcards etc is very welcome to attend.
