"Members' Night"

"Christmas"

The theme on Friday night at the Lanarkshire Philatelic Society was "Christmas" – and members gave a wonderfully varied response!

There were Nativity Scenes, Santas and decorations galore, as well as more serious displays of cards sent through the German Field Post Office, French Postal Stationery, and embroidered cards of World War 1; Christmas stamp issues for Australia, Switzerland, Ireland, Salonika, postmarks of places called "Bethlehem" in different parts of the world; Christmas Air Letters; some postal history of Lanarkshire with letters posted in December in 1839 – 1946.

There was a reminder that King Edward VIII abdicated in December, 1936 – the "Year of the 3 Kings".

Dr Ken Liddell gave thanks to all who had displayed and to Mrs. Ellen Currie who sponsored the evening.

Our next meeting in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton, is on Friday 9th January, 2015, at 7:30pm when the Committee will attempt to "Entertain" the membership.

Anyone with an interest in stamps, postal history, postcards etc is very welcome to attend.
