EAST
KILBRIDE ON SHOW
Chris Moffat, who was born in East Kilbride, and whose father, Andrew Moffat
had a shoe shop in Hunter Street, gave a fascinating display of "East
Kilbride" the members of Lanarkshire Philatelic Society on 15 November.
He showed early postal history from 1827, including letters from Calderwood
Castle and Bosfield House, and various postmarks through the years. He showed
Boys' Brigade items relating to the East Kilbride Company as well as many
postcards of the town.
There was the full range of East Kilbride Scout Christmas post, started in 1982
by the late Irvine Roberts. This was most appropriate as this year saw the
centenary of the East Kilbride Scout Troop.
Dr Ken Liddell voiced the thanks of the society for a most comprehensive
display.
