Lanarkshire Philatelic Society
"France in the 1950's" & "Indochina"
Mr. J. Moffat
On Friday
13 December, the visiting speaker, Mr. Jim Moffat, presented a most interesting
and attractive display in two related parts.
His "France in the 1950's" included the first pictorial cancellations
on First Day Covers; stamps issued showing French sports at which a gold
medal had been won at the 1952 Olympics; and the first of the "Europa"
stamps.
There followed "Indochina" which had been a French colony since 1863.
The history of its currency, air routes and the occupation by Japan in WW2 was
portrayed by stamps and covers up to 1954 when the French left the colony which
became independent.
Jean Martin proposed a sincere thanks for an excellent evening.
Our
next meeting in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton is on
Friday, 20th December, 2013 at 7:30pm when members will display "Stars".
Anyone
with an interest in stamps, postal history, postcards etc is very welcome to
attend.
