LPS Committee Members

On Friday, 11th January, members of Lanarkshire Philatelic Society looked forward to "The Committee Entertains" - and were not disappointed  with a great variety of subjects being displayed!

The evening was started off by a display from

Derek Wiltshire who travelled with David Livingstone and the Universities Mission to Central Africa and Zanzibar;

followed by

Ellen Currie - Stamps, miniature sheets and covers showing most interesting and innumerable maps - "Mapping the Planet";

Brian Dow - Stamps issued from the Opening to the Closing of the Commonwealth Games 2006 in Melbourne, Australia;

Ed Archer - 2013 marks the 80th Anniversary of Hitler becoming Chancellor of Germany - Stamps issued between 1933 and 1940 were displayed;

Mike Cleary was in very cold climes - in Antarctica with Stamps and Covers showing different polar expeditions

&

Sheila Sinclair sailed with the Pilgrim Fathers from Plymouth, Devon to New Plymouth, USA where they set up a new life.

Ken Norris had fascinating material of The Caledonian Railway especially connected to Glasgow and Lanarkshire;

David Haig showed his interest in the stamps issued in Saarbiet; Saarland and Saar between 1920 - 1951;

Robin Wishart showed lovely First Day Covers of railway locomotives and also covers issued for anniversaries of various railway companies;

Elsie Miller continued her theme of Children’s Literature with new acquisitions of stamps and covers illustrating well known books;

Brian Dow was remembering his "Arctic Adventure" and showed colourful postcards and stamps of Spitzbergen and Norway;

Raymond Baldock displayed interesting French Military Mail and also some rather risqué cartoon postcards

&, finally,

Paul McGowan was following the Netherlands Football Team as it played in the World Cup and other international events.

Bernard Berrie gave thanks to all for giving such an entertaining variety of displays.

Our next meeting in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton, is on Friday, 25th January, 2013 at 7:30pm when we all look forward to celebrating a "Scottish Evening".

Anyone with an interest in stamps, postal history, postcards etc is very welcome to attend.
