"Member's Night"

 

It was very much the "Members’ Choice" at the meeting of the Lanarkshire Philatelic Society on Friday, 21st December – and a wonderful variety of Displays were viewed.

 

The evening was set off by Margaret Lyth with "Wee Maggie’s Alter Ego" followed by

Brian Dow – colourful Christmas Anti-TB Seals issued by Norway;

Sheila Sinclair – the interesting story of Father Flanagan and Boystown, Nebraska, USA;

Ed Archer – the develpment of British Post Boxes – from 1763 to 2000;

David Brown – fascinating postcards showing old Cambuslang;

Walter Tytherleigh – the story of the Graf Zeppelin Airship which operated commercially between 1928 – 1937;

Albert Tong – colourful embroidered and sequinned postcards of Spanish Dancers;

Sam Sankus – "Cinderella" stamps showing Hollywood stars and legends;

Gary Cheyne – most interesting Post Office Instruction Posters from World War 1.

 

Bob Eadie showed colourful postcards gathered on his Cruise to Iceland;

Ken Norris – Local Stamps issued for East Kilbride Scouts Christmas Post delivery;

Paul McGowan – Stamps issued in the Netherlands - Paintings by Dutch Artists – Van Gogh, Rembrandt;

Eric Ross – Stamps and postcards showing Mountains in East Africa;

Margaret Allan – interesting Christmas seals and stamps, (In 1966 - £1 bought 80 GB stamps; in 2012 – you get 2!);

Sam Sankus – display of Award winning Beer Mats!;

Jim Fulton – propaganda postcards of Hungary showing the absurd boundary divisions of Treaty of Trianon;

David Haig – GB Christmas Air Letters through the years.

 

The President, Mike Cleary, gave thanks to all for giving such a fascinating variety of displays.

Our next meeting in the Caledonian Bowling Club, Motherwell Road, Hamilton, is on Friday, 11th January, 2013 at 7:30pm when members of the Committee will, hopefully, "entertain".

Anyone with an interest in stamps, postal history, postcards etc is very welcome to attend.
