"The Committee Entertain"

 

The Lanarkshire Philatelic Society was delighted to be meeting again after the cancellation of meetings due to the adverse weather of recent weeks! This was the evening when "The Committee Entertains" and a great variety of displays materialised.

 

The evening was led off by Mike Pomeroy with his display of stamps from British East Africa

Bill Wilkie showed a variety of  Christmas Seals from South Africa

Robin Wishart interested members with stamps and  postcards of an array of Railway Locomotives

Alan Wishart was more solemn with his Prisoner of War Mail

Philip Morgan-Klein was colourful with the Art of Friedensreich Hundertwasser

Ellen Currie showed humour with her story of the Talkin’ Robin!

 

President Ian Gray led the second round with Cycling Humour - postcards of very strange warning notices

Paul McGowan, with stamps and maps, took members round interesting Castles in the Netherlands

Sheila Sinclair, with stamps and postcards, thought of all the USA Festivities celebrated throughout the year

Elsie Miller displayed stamps of Children’s Literature titles presented through 2010 for "Europa"

David Haig showed covers and stamps of the private German mail service "NORDbrief"

He also displayed all the stamps issued by Germany during January to June 2010

Ken Norris brought us back home with his interesting display of some Famous Scots

Ed Archer interested all with stamps of the Allied Occupation of Germany after World War II.

 

Mike Cleary led members in giving the Vote of Thanks for such a wonderful variety of displays from Committee members.

 

Our next meeting in St Andrews Parish Church Hall, Avon Street, Hamilton,  is on Friday, 21st January, 2011 at 7:30pm for a timely display on the subject of "Burns’ Night". 

Anyone with an interest in stamps, postal history, postcards etc – and other collectable items - is very welcome to attend.
